Professional servicemen and women are incorporated in separate Corps according to their duties. Within each Corps they are grouped into three Lists - higher, middle and basic - depending on the level of education demanded and their professional responsibilities.
With the creation of the Ministry of Defence in 1977 a number of changes were
introduced into the organisation of the Corps of the Armed Forces. A unified Finance Corps
was established in 1985 and a unified Legal Corps in 1988, culminating on 19th July 1989
in the promulgation of Regular Personnel Regulatory Law 17/89.

Personnel of the Air Force General Duties Corps, grouped into higher, middle and basic Lists, are responsible for command, training and tasking of the Air Force and of support of it.
Rank structure within the Air Force General Duties Corps is from lieutenant to lieutenant-general in the higher List, second lieutenant to lieutenant-colonel in the middle List and sergeant to senior warrant officer in the basic List.

Personnel of the Air Force Supply Corps, grouped into a higher list, are responsible for the planning and management of economic resources and advising on economic-financial matters within the Ministry of Defence and autonomous organisations associated with it, as well as carrying out logistical commitments entrusted to it under Air Force regulations. They also fulfil administrative functions within the scope of their competences.
Rank structure within the Air Force Supply Corps is from lieutenant to lieutenant-general.

Personnel of the Air Force Engineering Corps, grouped into a higher List, are responsible for advice, application, reasearch and investigation concerning technical matters appropriate to their specialisation within the Air Force and autonomous organisations associated with it. They also fulfil administrative functions within the scope of their competences.
Rank structure within the Air Force Engineering Corps is from lieutenant to lieutenant-general.

Personnel of the Air Force Specialist Corps, grouped into middle and basic Lists, are responsible for the maintenance, supply and, when necessary, operation of weapons systems, equipment and other physical assets of the Air Force. They also have command and administrative support responsibilities
Rank structure within the Air Force Specialist Corps is from second lieutenant to lieutenant-colonel in the middle List and sergeant to senior warrant officer in the basic List.

Personnel of the Legal Corps, grouped into a higher List, are responsible within the law for military jurisdiction and juridical advice within the Armed Forces and autonomous organisations associated with them.
Rank structure within the Legal Corps is from lieutenant to colonel. Rank titles are followed by the style "auditor". The rank of brigadier is followed by the style "general auditor", and that of major-general by the style "consejero togado".

Personnel of the Finance Corps, grouped into a higher List, are responsible for carrying out within the Ministry of Defence and autonomous organisations associated with it and in the terms set out in the General Budgetary Law audits, financial inspections and cost-effectiveness checks as delegated by the Auditor General of the State Administration, as well as exercising the office of Notary General as laid down in law and the issuing of reports on matters within their competence as requested by higher authority in the Ministry of Defence.

Personnel of the Medical Corps, grouped into higher and middle Lists, are responsible for all aspects of the health and well-being of Armed Forces personnel, from routine medical attention to the running of hospitals and the performing of operations.
Rank structure within the Medical Corps is from lieutenant to major-general in the higher List, and from second lieutenant to lieutenant colonel in the middle list. All rank titles are followed by the style "medical".
