UFO over Zaragoza

This sighting is not cataloged or exists in any file as a report simply because the participants on this sighting did not write any report about the incident.

The veracity is based on conversations with the pilots and the fact that one of them, commented about the sighting during interviews on radio programs dealing with UFOs.

In this sighting there were involved the controllers in the Zaragoza Air Base control tower and the two Captains flying a twin seat TF-104G.

In an instruction flight, the rear cockpit pilot in the TF-104G was going to attempt a GCA (with the canopy closed) at the Zaragoza Air Base. They took off from Torrejon and after a normal flight while near Zaragoza, the event took place.

The Zaragoza control tower had for a while been observing a brilliant and stationary object at an altitude of about 15,000 feet straight up from the head of the 30R runway. For the time that they had been observing it, the object had not moved.

At that moment, the only airborne airplane within the control tower’s range was the TF-104G that was nearing Zaragoza.

Because of lack of movement or identification of the object, the controllers on the tower asked the TF-104G to abort the landing and to proceed to identify the object.

There for, the pilot on the forward cockpit took control of the aircraft and started looking for the object with radar, but they did not have time to do it because they had established visual contact.

They lined up with the object and upon reaching it they did a complete 360º to the left of their TF-104G, and they were surprised to see it starting to move.

The movement was vertical and at a high rate of speed, the TF-104G started to climb (with afterburner) doing spirals around the object, and for a while they were at the same elevation. They thought about taking a look from underneath but they decided not to do it because the were not sure if they could find radiation fields, electromagnetic fields, propulsion jets, etc..

The pilots did observe that the object had a shape of a cigar that emitted a very brilliant light and that it also reflected a lot of light, through the radiant light, they could distinguish a solid gray shape.

According to the pilots, at one point, the object started gaining more speed and when they reached the altitude of 55,000 feet they had to stop the chase because that is the maximum security altitude for the pilots since they did not have the high pressure fly suits and for the aircraft because low air density for the engine.

Shortly there after, the object is lost on its vertical ascension never to be seen again.
